Game 70: Pre-Game Notes

6:55 PM — Marco Cousineau in goal for the Jackals…

6:50 PM — Trenton starters are…

Lerg
Berenguer-Nolet
Berube-Hayes-Prough

Rest of Trenton roster is…

Vichorek, Leaderer, Southorn, Godlewski
Zancanaro, Stoesz, Lombardi, Nagy, Potacco, Arhontas, Germain
Caruso

6:40 PM — Arhontas, as you can see, will wear #25.  I last saw him in the ECAC Playoffs this month…undersized kid for sure.  Slightly shorter than Tony Zancanaro if you can believe that.  Grinder, hustle guy…not the most skilled kid out there for sure, but the effort was always there when I saw him.  I’ve seen him play eight times in person for Princeton…he was 1-3-4 with a plus-one and two PIM’s.

6:34 PM — And here’s Arhontas from warmups…

6:26 PM — Here’s Arhontas from this year…

6:25 PM — Trenton signs former Princeton forward Matt Arhontas…

(PR) Trenton, NJ – The Trenton Devils today signed forward Matt Arhontas. The announcement was made by Albany and Trenton General Manager Chris Lamoriello.

Arhontas, 24, recently concluded his college career at Princeton University (ECAC). In four seasons with Princeton, the Naperville, IL native compiled 28 goals and 37 assists with a plus-15 in 127 career games, posting a career-high 19 points his senior year. Arhontas played three seasons of junior hockey with the USHL’s Waterloo Black Hawks from 2004 to 2007, serving as captain his third year and scoring a career-best 18 goals and 45 points. The 5-7, 160-lb. right-handed shooter was born March 10, 1987.

Trenton hosts Elmira Wednesday at 7 p.m. and plays its final home game of the 2010-11 season against the Reading Royals Friday at 7 p.m.

3:40 PM — As is the norm, not a whole lot going on at this time of day.  But, since I’m here, I’d might as well update you on the travels of Ryan Ginand, who was recently called up to AHL Albany.

In two games, Ginand has two goals and two assists and is a plus-two with seven shots on goal and four penalty minutes.  Couldn’t be happier for him…nice to see he’s making the most of an opportunity that he deserved much earlier in the season.

Curtis Marouelli is your referee for the evening.  Purchase tickets accordingly…sitting behind the glass behind the benches might be ill-advised, as coaches will likely be punching it often throughout the evening.

He looks like Tony’s toddler son.

  2. Titans04 Says:

Maybe they pay by the pound when they bring these guys in?

  3. trentondevilsfan Says:

Lol! He is the right size. he’s already played here too ( with Reading earlier in the month)

  4. Titans04 Says:

Is it some kind of benefit when you can tuck the numbers on your sleeves into your gloves? Way to go all out Chris as usual. At this point of the season I would rather be entertained by a guy that’s willing to stir the pot against these tools.

  5. Langhorne Devil Says:

Looks more like Pocahontas than a hockey player.. Sorry couldn’t resist

  6. trentondevilsfan Says:

Wow, there’s no one here even for a Wednesday…

  7. chiarams Says:

Here’s hoping that 1,254 announced attendance helps Trenton clinch last place in the league in attendance.

  8. trentondevilsfan Says:

Well a 3-3 shootout is still possible……nice D by Leaderer to put elmira on the board

  9. Titans04 Says:

26 must of been heading away from the play to catch his breath I guess. They got lucky Elmira was to busy trying to make the perfect pass on the pp, if they spent more time throwing the puck at the net we’d be looking at a very different score going into the 3rd. 6 lucky his terrible clearing attempt wasn’t immediately deposited into the back of the net.

  10. Titans04 Says:

Let’s try and hold on for dear life the rest of the way.

  11. Titans04 Says:

    Lmao what a disgrace.

  12. Titans04 Says:

Two shorthanded goals in the blink of an eye and they somehow didn’t completely fold. Elmira played a whale of a half a game but in the end it wasn’t enough. Congrats for finding a way to pull it out. Nice to see Leaderer redeem himself. Healthy scratch Hayes continuing to prove he should have never been in that position.

Elmira should be embarrassed with that effort.

  13. trentondevilsfan Says:

Ueah, half a game indeed. Definite nice job by Trenton not folding when they tied it. Broke the streak of 4 straight 3-2 shootout games at home.

  14. titansman Says:

especially since Elmira had all those guys sent down to take care of them and tohelp them make the playoffs while Trenton had its leading scorer in the A and Kell and Charleston not playing. Always nice to beat Elmira.

  15. Shtikl Says:

That’s right. Always SWEET to beat Elmira. Well done, kids! Ash, what’s the record for the smallest player ever to lace up in the ECHL?

  16. steelgameday Says:

Logged in on my Steel account…but that’s a good question. Zancanaro is listed at 5-5 and Arhontas is shorter. Leave it at that.

  17. Titans04 Says:

Tony has proven over the years that he’s tough as nails definitely an exception for a guy his size.

  18. Langhorne Devil Says:

On the team sheet arhontas was down as 5-7??!?? In his skates maybe.

  19. tdevils Says:

Yep, definitely would never question Tony. Another solid season.
