Game 47: Pre-Game Notes

6:55 PM — Starters are…

6:40 PM — Kory Nagy’s back in the lineup, Ryan Hayes is out…it is a healthy scratch.  Not sure why he’s one of the options to take a seat lately…but don’t shoot the messenger.

5:40 PM — Anyone looking for any ECHL All-Star Game stuff…game-worn jerseys and game-used pucks and stuff, check this out.

5:30 PM — Ryan Nie vs. Shane Connelly is, obviously, your goalie matchup.  Via Dan D’Uva, Connelly takes a 127:43 scoreless streak into tonight’s game.  It is not, however, the longest of his pro career…not even close.

Last season, Connelly posted three consecutive shutouts while with South Carolina.  He played the final 12:48 of 2/13/10 game without allowing a goal (after allowing two earlier in the third period) and posted shutouts in regulation on 2/19, 2/20 and 2/21.  The streak was broken at 4:45 of the second period on 2/27…meaning he played 24:45 scoreless there as well.  Add it all up, and you’ve got a 217:33 scoreless streak.

3:45 PM — Not a whole lot to tell you just yet…

Kalamazoo’s the team making some news…forward Brady Leisenring has been returned to the club from the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and defenseman Ryan McGinnis has been called up by the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.

As for last night’s game, well…I’m just about all written out on that one.  But I did want to see if it was the lowest attended event here since the “Who wants to date a beat writer” convention they had here a few weeks ago…

Here’s the attendance (announced attendance, mind you) from the home games this season…

10/16: 3,836
10/17: 1,420
10/28: 1,140
10/29: 1,720
11/5: 1,847
11/17: 1,113
11/20: 2,379
11/27: 3,022
11/28: 1,682
12/4: 2,091
12/8: 1,320
12/12: 2,088
12/19: 2,046
12/26: 1,870
12/29: 2,421
1/1: 1,864
1/12: 1,248
1/14: 2,104
1/15: 4,686
1/22: 2,935
1/23: 2,568 (AC)
2/5: 2,847
2/6: 2,560
2/9: 1,260

So, to summarize…nope, not the lowest attended game this season.  Fourth-lowest, actually.  Yikes.

Also had three crowds smaller than that last year (1209, 1216, 1202).

Amazingly they’re not that far down from last year’s pace at this point in the season.

With 11 games left, they’ve got 3 weeknights, 4 Fridays, 2 Sundays, and 2 Saturdays left.

I would guess they might get enough stragglers to break the Mendoza line for the year, which is surprising, honestly.

take that number and multiply it by .75 to get a real feel for it. That’s probably being kind on most nights.

Guess that’s what some call being spoiled.

Good news is you don’t even have to tap the brake getting out of the lot.

On the surface Wheeling is taking it in the seat today with the moves WB’s is making and the minimal returns on todays ECHL transactions.

Looks like nagy in, Hayes out

  5. Langhorne Devil Says:

I see reading have lost scrivens to ahl, that bodes well for the weekend

  6. Devil Dawg Says:

Awesome, the swagger wagon vid is back.
    I love it…..NOT

  7. Titans04 Says:

Anybody have any questions how the lineup works and what guys are Devils guys and which guys aren’t? Performance means very little. It gets even more crowded after tonight if Charleston returns. Going to have to be some injuries popping up and or callups.

  8. Titans04 Says:

Apparently a late arriving crowd tonight even later than usual. Less than 200 at 6:46.

I just realized what time it is….wow…

Glad my hatred of the Swagger Wagon commercial lives on…

  11. Langhorne Devil Says:

So what do we think does happen with charleston tomorrow?

    A) just back on our roster and play at the weekend
    B) a spell on ir
    C) released
    D) up to Albany

  12. Titans04 Says:

Depends if it’s about winning or NOT.

  13. Langhorne Devil Says:

I’m amazed you can type that without laughing

  15. Langhorne Devil Says:

I hope so mike a but none of the options would surprise me

  16. Devil Dawg Says:

    I think there’s about 180 people here…not good…

  17. trentondevilsfan Says:

    Welcome to the morgue….

  18. Langhorne Devil Says:

16 shots to 4. Score 0-2. Say no more.. But I will. Lots of skating around the O zone but not achieving much. It would be nice if these shots from the blue line at least hit the target now and then.

What do the goal line judges get paid? Cos it’s too much. The one time we were about to attempt a wraparound, our line judge was looking around on the floor for a puck which had fallen from the ledge above him!

  19. Langhorne Devil Says:

Woooooooooooo swaggers broken again!! Any chance of putting celtics v lakers on screen. Ta

  20. Titans04 Says:

Really hard when you only give up 4 shots and aee down 2. Don’t think he had a chance on the first not sure about the 2nd but Berube and Pender didn’t help. Different Wings team and Nie always plays well here. This one has moral victory and no points written all over it. Would love to be wrong.

  21. Devil Dawg Says:

Nice shorthanded penalty shot by Lombardi…
Dare I say comeback ahoy? ….
