Game 45: Pre-Game Notes

12:55 PM — Starting lineups are…

TRENTON: Lerg, Nolet, Leaderer, Zajac, Nagy, Prough
READING: Scrivens, Donald, Liotti, Gallant, Scrymgeour, Slaney

TRENTON ACTIVE ROSTER: 1, 31; 7, 8, 20, 23, 26, 27; 9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 18, 21, 24, 25, 34

12:45 PM — There will be some blog-only games coming up soon, but this is a Trentonian game for me…so talk amongst yourselves and I’ll have all the post-game chatter you’ve come to expect.

12:10 PM — News!  Now with 50 percent less snark!

Justin Coutu has been activated off the IR and Jordon Southorn has been placed on the 21-Day IR…would have to suspect some sort of fracture if he’s out that long.

Ben Scrivens will be in goal for the Royals today…Chris Blight has been called up to AHL Hershey, Vladimir Nikiforov has been activated as well.  Brett Gallant will play, Richard Greenop will not.

Myles Stoesz is also likely out for Trenton, with Matt Vokes in.

11:00 AM — Welcome to “Let’s Do Anything We Can To Mess Up The Ice Surface As Close To The Games That Actually Matter” Arena here in Trenton, NJ…two hours before gametime on an unthinkably scheduled 1 PM game (only game in the league today!) and there’s a high school game wrapping up.

Why the chipper mood?  I’ve done many things since the final whistle blew here at the LDAWCTMUTICASCTTGTAM Arena, but sleep wasn’t one of them.  Suffer a rough Game 7 defeat in a Kings-Devils series in NHL 11 to my buddy Matt?  Check.  Hint…I wasn’t the Devils.  Make a late night stop to Taco Bell for a quad steak burrito and a barrel of Baja Blast Mountain Dew?  You got it.  Type up my post-game notes?  Sure.  Have a sausage calzone for breakfast?  Absolutely.  Read myself in the paper and subsequently beat myself up over two grammatical errors?  You know it.

But sleep?  No.

So if my game story looks like this — And the Trenton Devils beat the Readnfdsklahgeiohgerilhgerkjnkjhgstrnjgktrh — it’ll be because I fell asleep on my laptop.

Now, if you’ve come here looking for news…well, there’s really not much to say.  Royals goalie Daren Machesney was released from his PTO with AHL Worcester today, so who knows if he’s heading back to Reading.  And if he did, where would he fit in with Scrivens and Hutchinson already in the fold?

And good news for former Trenton Titans goalie Joel Martin, who signed an NHL contract with the Islanders yesterday.  Martin, who played in 32 games for the Titans in 2006-07, started the season with the CHL’s Odessa Jackalopes…but now finds himself one ill-advised goalie attempting to start a brawl with other team and getting his face rearranged by the opposing goalie away from being in the National Hockey League.

a barrel of baha blast? Mike you are THE MAN !!!!

  2. trentondevilsfan Says:

Hopefully the boys can do their part in keeping you awake. Back to back wins vs the same team no less…..a tough task. Here’s hoping!

  3. Langhorne Devil Says:

Reading bring gallant in. Surely we need Myles in.

  4. Titans04 Says:

Nah no need for Stoesz 4 in 5 for reading today no excuse to lose this one.

  5. Titans04 Says:

Easy Mike almost took that one to the head.

  6. trentondevilsfan Says:

No Myles? Can you say wtf?

  7. tdevils Says:

Yep. Puck landed about a foot or two from smacking me in the noggin in the corner. Good times.

  8. ForeverTitans Says:

At least if they don’t play well I can enjoy eating a box of girl scout cookies!

  9. tdevils Says:

Was very, very difficult to pass up the thin mints for $3.50…and whatever those coconut ring-shaped things are called.

  10. Titans04 Says:

That’s the way to rebound Lerg. Whoops wrong sport.

  11. Titans04 Says:

Fish out of water. Get the hook ready.

  12. Langhorne Devil Says:

Ok someone explain this to me. They get called for roughing in their defensive zone and face off is in neutral zone?

We get called for it in offensive zone, defensive zone face-off.

Also two guys jump at ginand at same time. 1pen?

  13. Titans04 Says:

I think our D came down from the top which I think puts the faceoff outside the zone.

This guy calls games with his one bad eye. Perhaps the worst of the worst.

Maybe we’re in this one as long as we hold them shotless over the next 40.

Taylor turned down Gallant on re faceoff after we scored. Not sure it’s going to be the last time he makes the offer. Taylor to his credit did get the best of him last time.

  14. Langhorne Devil Says:

Thanks t04. Early on we did look good. A lot calmer. But then they score and we look panicky again.

I see Caruso tide the pine back to back nights in Albany.

  15. Titans04 Says:

You can’t make this stuff up 1 for 1. Atta boy.

  16. Titans04 Says:

2 for 2. Game over. Just weird goals I guess.

  17. Langhorne Devil Says:

Is it bad that I actually feel more confident with the sieve than the funnel.

Good fightback. Do you think they may be learning that firing the puck at goal and feeding off the rebounds is so much more effective Ghana dumping round the boards.

  18. trentondevilsfan Says:

Autocorrect win again 🙂 Hey Lou, seen enough of Lerg yet? I have…… Still in this one for now though.

  19. Titans04 Says:

They have no business being behind in this one imo. Just zero goaltending leaves them with a huge hole to climb out of. Hopefully they can do it.

  20. Langhorne Devil Says:

Haha tdf. I just saw it. Know idea how it got Ghana. 3 games of being the better team. Is it going to result in just 2 points?

Cmon boys they are going to be tired. Pile on that pressure

  21. Titans04 Says:

I can’t spell for shit but the droid is just brutal with it too. I don’t need the help looking like an ass.

  22. Titans04 Says:

Lerg was robben he was the first start of the game. Timberlake was the second beat Royal.

  23. Langhorne Devil Says:

Ah the joy of the home pc without auto correct

now the rest of the team is stepping up a bit, the goalie issue is really showing.

3 games this weekend (and i know shot numbers can be deceiving..but)

Game 1 shots 52-25 to Trenton.. lose 4-2
Game 2 shots 43-29 to Trenton win 4-2
Game 3 shots 44-17 to Trenton lose 4-3

    Totals 139 – 71 2/6 points.

If we had swapped goalise. that would have been 3 large victories.

Jeff Im sorry at this level, size does matter. Majority of saves made are just by the puck hitting the goalie – therefore the more area you cover the more you will save.

As long as you have a decent level of agility the bigger the better.

  24. trentondevilsfan Says:

And he’s way to small to butterfly. He covers 1/4 of the net doing that.

  25. Justwantateam Says:

Yup way too small for that style of play. Loved the Nagy line in the third. They really really can control play down low. I moved here in December and since I have been coming to games I notice that midway through the first the lines are crAzy. They can’t get rolling and familiar with each other this way!! Guess it’s the difference in being an NHL caliber coach vs minor league coach. Can’t be an easy job to be a coach but just makes sense to keep lines together for a couple of periods.
