Former Devil Poli Retires

If the ECHL Transactions page on its website is to be believed, former Trenton Devils forward Chris Poli has retired from professional hockey at just 25 years old.

Poli was a talented, but oft-injured member of the Devils from 2007-08 to 2009-10 after a four-year collegiate career at Brown University.  While with Trenton, he tallied 22 goals in 55 games, including a career-high 13 in 36 games last year.

Poli signed with the Gwinnett Gladiators prior to the start of the 2010-11 season and posted a 3-2-5 line in 17 games before being traded to the Wheeling Nailers.  Poli was subsequently suspended by the Nailers, and ultimately never played a game for them.

What a rough tale.  It’s all too common in this league for players careers to just fade away, but to see it happen to someone like Poli, who really showed some talent while he was out there…that’s too bad.

Maybe he just wants to settle down and stop spending half his life on the bus and the other half rehabbing the latest ding. If he has a job lined up and family and friends he’s been missing the past few years, it could be a good time to launch the next career. Best of luck to him!
