Kemp Cut From Camp; News and Notes

— First, some Trenton news.  According to the ECHL website, the T-Devils have released forward Nick Kemp out of camp.   One of the first four signings the team officially announced in the off-season, the 24-year-old scored nine goals and added 13 assists in 62 games in 2009-10 during his rookie season with Bakersfield.  Prior to that, he played collegiately at The University of Minnesota-Duluth.

— Looks like the AHL boys will get some solid coverage this year.  Check out Pete Dougherty’s Hockey Spoken Here blog…

— Wheeling made quite a few moves, getting seven players from Wilkes-Barre Scranton’s camp. Forwards Andrew Lord, Andrew Orpik, Mikeal Bedard, David Marshall and Alex Smigelski, defenseman Kyle Bushee, and goaltender Patrick Killeen will all report to the Nailers.  Lord is probably the most recognizable name there — as the former RPI standout notched 17 goals for Wheeling last season.  And yes, Andrew Orpik is the brother of Penguins blueliner Brooks Orpik.

In addition, Wheeling has brought back F Casey Pierro-Zabotel, F Joey Haddad and F Ryan Schnell.

— Reading has signed goaltender Brent Troyan to a tryout agreement.  Troyan and Shane Davis are the only two goaltenders that the Royals have under contract to date.  Troyan has previously served as an emergency backup (EBUG) for the Johnstown Chiefs.

— Elmira has added forwards Eric Lampe and Alex Curran.  Lampe was assigned by AHL Syracuse, while Curran has joined the club on a tryout deal.

— Cincinnati was assigned eight players from four different AHL camps.  The Rochester Americans have sent forwards Ryan Del Monte, Matt Pierce, and defenseman Brian O’Hanley to Cincinnati. The Milwaukee Admirals, meanwhile, assign forward Dylan Hunter, defenseman J.C. Sawyer, and goalie Jeremy Smith. Chris Morehouse, who was in a tryout camp with Peoria, is coming back to Cincinnati. Finally, defenseman Brock Sheahan returns to the Queen City after skating in Manitoba’s camp.

Del Monte played in 46 games with Cincinnati after being dealt from Johnstown, while Smith was named co-Playoff MVP (with Robert Mayer) after backstopping the Cyclones to the Kelly Cup.

— I mentioned a lot of familiar names in that post yesterday, but I did miss a few.  Derek Couture and Mike Wilson (left) have signed on with the Victoria Salmon Kings.  Couture last appeared in the ECHL last season with Charlotte, but is likely best known for his run with Elmira.  In 2008-09, he scored 20 points in 21 games and appeared in the Jackals incredible first round playoff matchup with Trenton.

Wilson, meanwhile, enjoyed a lengthy NHL career and had a brief stint with the Trenton Devils during their 2008-09 playoff run, appearing in five regular season games (the minimum to make a non-AHL contracted player playoff eligible) and five out of a possible seven postseason contests.  Last season, the 36-year-old, who runs a hockey school in Ohio, appeared in two games for Toledo.

Where’ve you been all summer, watching baseball or something? I know titans04 found Pete Dougherty’s blog long since, it’s a relief to have someone actually cover the all-bunny dweebles, probably the best thing that happened to them since the left Low Hell.

But there’s another blog to follow, Bill Cain’s over at the Schenectady Gazette. He calls it “H-E-doublehockeysticks”, I don’t know if this link will fly for you:

    Have you met Bill yet?

    That’s not true.

According to Travis Zajac (via Tom Gulitti) Darcy Zajac is on his way to Trenton.

According to this, it is true:

League error maybe? But I’m just reporting what the league is saying.

Have e-mailed with Pete, but have not yet met him or Bill.
