What Gets Traded To Vegas Doesn’t Necessarily Stay In Vegas

I had hoped to have a bit more information on this before posting it, but defenseman John Wessbecker has been returned to the Trenton Devils from the Las Vegas Wranglers.

According to the league’s transactions report, Wessbecker was returned in compliance with Rule 62 (c).

I contacted the league in an effort to find out what the hell Rule 62 (c) is, and a league spokesman said it was in the league’s operations manual, and that it’s up to the individual team to discuss that rule with their media members if they so choose.

So I have an e-mail out to the T-Devils trying to find out why the deal was voided.

In reality, it’s not a big deal.  Wessbecker was shipped away because they wanted to find him a new home because he was unlikely to play for Trenton again.  Him being returned doesn’t change that.  It just hurts his career a bit, since he won’t be able to play…which stinks for him, but doesn’t affect the team too much.  Don’t be surprised to see him placed on IR again.

Nice of the league to basically say “Don’t ask me, I just work here”

  2. titansman Says:

According to the ECHL transactions yesterday he was placed on the 21 day IR

  3. titans04 Says:

that was back dated to the original IR date.

03/17/2010 Chris Murray (D) Lowell DEL Returned on loan to Trenton (ECHL)

Nice just in time for the trip.

Weird response by the league. My first guess is he didn’t pass a physical….yay for us with Murray!!!

Josh Johnson was traded to alaska and the same rule cited in his return, this article from Alaska:

Seems to back up the injury bit. If Wessbecker’s facing potential surgery and plays, they’re picking up the tab for his medical costs.

Watch out for Kevin to come down with a cold and maybe even Kucharski at some point. Killer was talking about going into this weekend with the healthiest team they’ve had all season. Jeremy was talking like he’ll definately play, If Ginand is back too there’s a couple roster spots that need to be freed up. Lucyk looked like he might be coming down with something last game.

Ginand was put on the 21-day IR back on March 12. Unless they back-dated it, he won’t be available until April 2nd, yes?

    Just seen on echl.

    Akeson activated from IR

Cormier has a light cold and on ir 😉

    pender gone to 7day ir

but most unexpected Brett Wilson released

  9. Shtikl Says:

Wilson released. 13g-24a in 57 games, released. Something went badly wrong. 😦

  10. titans04 Says:

Ginand last played on 2/21, I would assume he went on either the 3 or 7 day IR shortly after that. His 21 day minimum stay would go back to the original day he was first placed on the 3 or 7, unless he was activated in between which I don’t think happened.

As far as Wilson yet another PERFECT example of how winning falls way behind “developing” players that the Devils have an interest in. Clearly Kevin has no role and to a degree that makes sense BUT keeping Kucharski over Wilson is a joke. Kyle had a decent first 4-6 weeks but since then not only hit the wall it fell on top of him. He’s been flat out invisible unless you’re counting the number of times he gets knocked off his skates or how many times he bounces off people. Wilson has been VERY good after a quiet spell as well. At one time he was something like a -16 and is now a -2. At a time when they’re rolling and Wilson having been a big part of it stupid s*it like this points out what the Devils care about most and it’s not winning.

Not saying they should have cut Kucharski but bring him up to Lowell let him practice there if they think he has a future. Eventually I’m sure we’ll have more injuries and then maybe he comes back to play. He hasn’t looked anything but horrible since he returned from IR. Losing Wilson was a bad move. They need roster slots let Kyle and Pender drive up to Lowell together – 2 guys the Devils have had on their radar for a couple years that have proven to well, not be that good at this point in their careers.

    Great to see Jeremy activated.

    Have a seat Kyle.

titans04, none of my business but when I see them letting go of Wilson, I don’t think it was about player development. I see something painful and I think we need to back off, calm down and let the team handle it in private. If I’m wrong, you can throw poo at me later and I’ll look more stupid than usual, if that’s possible.

  12. titans04 Says:

    wanna bet?

  13. Shtikl Says:

No. I want the T-Devils to put this behind them and get into the playoffs.

  14. titans04 Says:

    We agree on that.

  15. Trentondevilsfan Says:

Yeah, this doesn’t pass the smell test, not when there’s Lowell to send him to.

Hope he ends up out of conference.
