Better Late Than Never…

My apologies on not doing a little more writing about Saturday night’s game sooner.  I had a very busy Sunday, and just now was able to get to my laptop to add a few thoughts.  Hopefully, you were all able to survive on the 10 minutes or so of post-game audio.

First off, I apologize to those of you who saw the headline in The Trentonian.  Yes, I know Jack Combs’ efforts were for the T-Devils.  The person who writes the story doesn’t write the headline.

Now, getting to the game…it was fun to be there on Saturday.  There, I said it.  One thing you will always get from me is honesty, and honestly…it can be somewhat miserable to be there sometimes.  But Saturday was different.  Entire sections were full, the crowd was into it, and the concourse was full of people milling about the arena.

And the team delivered.  That was one heck of a performance they turned in against the Royals, totally dominating them for the majority of the game.  Rick Kowalsky again gave a great post-game quote, saying that every game, it’s either been everybody chipping in or somebody new.

If you listened to the post-game audio, you heard how relieved Jeremy Akeson was to “get the monkey off his back” and get on the scoresheet twice.  And Combs netted three goals after having a bit of a cold stretch.

Justin Coutu, who’s always a great, unfiltered interview, said that he felt like tomorrow’s game will be like a playoff game.  Given all the rough stuff at the end of the game, and that the Royals got completely embarrassed, and I’d say that’s a safe bet.  They’ve got to come out completely differently than they did, so I’ll be curious to see what the first 10 minutes of the game look like.

I’ll be at tomorrow’s morning skate, hoping for a chat with Jeff Lerg.  So stay tuned for that, and yes…to the person who asked, eventually a piece on Eric Castonguay as well.

Here are some photos from the game as well…

Yeah, Sat. night was great. Regarding tomorrow: (1) is Pender hurt? (2) Will Cormier dress?

I don’t have a reason to believe Pender is hurt. If anything, his pride might be banged up from not being able to beat the crap out of Hand for his cheapshots.

Cormier…I doubt it. Rick said this week would be big for him, so it doesn’t sound like he’ll be ready.

hey there just want to say good luck tonight against us. hope we (Reading) can come out with a better performance than Saturday against you guys and hope the misconducts are a minimum. it should be a interesting game. by the way i like the Johnson & MacDougald pics you took

I think if you guys can get a better performance out of your goalie it should be a heck of a game. Nothing makes a team grip their sticks tight like a leaky goalie. Ask Finland – or us when Jason Smith was here. Real tough spot when both regular goalies are out.

I don’t expect anything crazy unless the game gets out of whack again; it’s too important a game to get stupid in otherwise.
