Live From Trenton… (UPDATED With Goalies)

…I’m sitting here in the Mike Ashmore’s Career Memorial Press Box here at the Sun National Bank Center.  I wish I had some form of an update for you…but I really don’t.  The ECHL Transactions e-mail doesn’t have anything in the way of news — which likely means that Trenton will send out the same lopsided lineup that earned them a win in Elmira last night — and I’m pretty much the only one up here for the time being.

For what it’s worth, the crack research staff here at Inside the Trenton Devils — me — see that the T-Devils have faced Josh Johnson before.  In fact, it was Dave Caruso’s only ECHL appearance last year.  Here’s the box score from that.

It’s a Trentonian game, so I’ll have all the updates and whatnot you’ve come to expect after it’s all said and done.  The bronze medal game is on MSNBC at 10, so don’t forget to check that out when you get home…

And also, don’t forget that it’s Jeff Frazee bobblehead night here…

UPDATE: Reading is sending Josh Johnson (pictured) out between the pipes, while Trenton’s going with Dave Caruso.

Thanks for being there! Congrats on the gig!

    Go, Trenton Devils!

  2. Shtikl Says:

OK, that’s a Gladiators mask. Makes sense. Do the pads match?

  3. Shtikl Says:

And does he have chin fuzz to go with the Schnurrbart?

  4. Trentondevilsfan Says:

Gwinnet is one of the three echl teams he’s played for this year. Need to get a lot of shots on this guy as he’s not very good.

  5. tdevils Says:

Dark pads…and haven’t seen him without the mask. He’s already given up 3.

  6. Shtikl Says:

They got one back, though. Careful.

My eyes must be deceiving me, though. The scoresheet says the game’s at the Sun National Bank Center but the announced Attendance is 4663. It’s bobblehead night, sure, but are there really that many people present? Must be a lively crowd, with the T-Devils scoring early, eh?

  7. tdevils Says:

It’s legit. Shocking. It was a pain in the rear end getting around the concourse in the first period….

  8. Shtikl Says:

Hmm. MacDougald played for the Petes and Sarnia (Kell know him?), then went for higher education at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. Is it true that Canadian college hockey isn’t as ferocious as the NCAA Division I variety?

  9. Shtikl Says:

PS, know what you mean about the crowded concourse. Usually in Lowell we can walk right from our seats up to Bill at the bar and he has ours waiting for us. If there’s a crowd, we actually have to wait. Spoiled 😉

  10. Shtikl Says:

Well, the Lowlies lost in the shootout. And behind the action, one of the Phantoms slashed Eckford’s wrist, he lost his glove and stick, skated off, tried a shift late in the 3rd but skated off early. Good thing Cohen was a healthy scratch. But that leaves Flynn as the healthy backup.

7-1 for the T-Devils, and MacDougald was in. Fans must be really happy!

Pender fighting? Gotta hear about that one. And the donnybrook at the end, sounds like somebody can’t wait for Tuesday. All the T-Devils OK?

  11. tdevils Says:

My eyes are still burning, because MacDougald got absolutely lit up by Jack Combs. Was obviously thrilled to see him get in there, but Combs eyes lit up like dinner plates.

Pender and Hand’s fight wasn’t much of anything until Hand landed a few cheap shots at the end of it when they were both on the ice. It’s interesting…I saw him give a puck to a kid before the game and was thinking what a nice guy he was, and then he does something like that and you start wondering how to avoid using derogatory terms involving women’s hygiene products in a sentence.

They all made it out unscathed. Tomko got boarded towards the end of the game, which led to a doo-doo show. Coutu very nearly jumped off the bench, which I hear is because Tomko was already in the box and Trenton was down 5-on-4 in the scrum, but was restrained by teammates and Vince Williams.
