Pre-Game Before The Big Game (Update: Murray Back)

Am I covering a sporting event on the day of the Super Bowl?  Yes.  Is it the Super Bowl?  No.  One day.  One day…

For now, anyway, I’m working the Trenton Devils game this afternoon.  News?  Uhhh…well, Elmira got Yannick Tifu back and will likely start Julien Ellis.  For Trenton, I wasn’t here on Friday, so I don’t know if Gerald Coleman is expected to dress today.  Justin Coutu was placed on the 3-Day IR as well.

It’s a Trentonian game for me, but if anything develops before then, stay tuned…

UPDATE:  Noticed Chris Murray out there for warm-ups.  Don’t know if there are any other moves.  Dave Caruso starts, backed up by Anthony Felice.  Julien Ellis for the Jackals.

UPDATE 2: Apparently, there’s a bunch of other stuff.  Kell, Charleston, Kucharski, Tomko all out.  Coutu as well.  Nine forwards tonight, I think.

Are the boys ready to be driven through the glass all game long?

  2. tdevils Says:

Well, all the tough guys in the Trenton lineup should be able to counterbalance that…

What’s the deal with Coleman? Johnson is back for Helmira too. Don’t know about outplayed but I can pretty much say we’re going to be out physicaled even if they didn’t sleep a wink on the bus ride here.

Will ask Rick after the game…

Lovely. Good thing Castonguay and Stoesz didn’t make the trip down with Murray even though they sat out last night. Castonguay sitting way more than he plays. All is well.

Murray back… Wow, that was fast! My spy noticed him surfing the concession stands with Stoesz at last night’s game in Lowell. Oy, poor guy. At least he had a couple weeks with MacLean, maybe he brought some good energy with him — then again, considering that the L-Dweebs dropped all 3 games this week, picked up 2 points and coughed up 6, maybe it’s just as well he’s back in Trenton where everybody’s up-beat, eh? 😉

    How’s the turnout?

If Kell is out longterm, I can’t imagine things will be looking up for the finish of the season.

Typical weekend crowd. Better than usual, but still bad.

Glad to hear it’s better. Super Bowl Sunday games never made any sense to me. Rochester used to do a 2:05 game every year and to a fault it was generally the one home game we missed every season.

15 skaters. I guess Chris didn’t get the memo about the guys that are hurt.

  10. Shtikl Says:

Chris got the memo. Possibly he has no resources and can’t hire anybody, but from the outside it just looks like he really doesn’t care.

Probably a little of column A, a little of column B.

In years past, there was always a list of beer leaguers that could fill in for games like this.

I guess paying them the $50 is too much to ask from the Devils. Especially when they’re footing Felice’s lofty salary.

  12. Titans04 Says:

Too bad great effort in the first totally carrying the play. Played well in the first half of the second but a handful of guys missed grade A chances on the doorstep and Elmira comes down on a broken play and the pucks in our net. Hitting picked up in the second for one of the teams. Shots that found th back of the net for Eves earlier are now not even that close. Prough continues to struggle big time. Maybe they get lucky in the third.

A little birdie told me Coleman wasn’t injured.. he had a little “disagreement” with Killer. It’s from a good source who had direct contact with a member of the team. Knowing Coleman to be a little hard headed, and given the fact that they had a problem last year, it doesn’t surprise me. Just some food for thought.

Easy come easy go with Salmela being carried off the ice last night????

  15. Shtikl Says:

Yeah, probably so, at least until the Olympic break. There’s a freeze on NHL trades, but I think they can send Corrente (or whichever boy they steal) back to Low Hell for the break. I read somewhere that Salmela suffered a concussion (7 days minimum), broken nose (surgery + minimum 4 weeks in a face shield), and damaged teeth (??). Not sure he’ll be ready to go the 28th, so there might be a yo-yo effect. Ain’t it great being a fan of a minor league devilopment team? 😛

  17. chiarams Says:

And Devils fans want Carter suspended because?

Note to Salmela – maybe you should keep your head up when you’re skating in the crease.

Nice to see the Devils players step up though and defend their teammate. Oh wait – not part of the system. Got it.

  18. Shtikl Says:

Some fans want him suspended for a head shot. Agree that players should keep their heads up, and still think the league needs to come up with a clear rule on head shots. But from what Lemaire said to the beat reporters, it sounds like he wasn’t going to send the tapes to Campbell for review, but maybe he did. So don’t worry about Carter.

Gulitti reports that Rob Davison was called up from Lowell. (Not Corrente.) The L-Devils’ next game is Friday in Norfolk, wonder if they’ll call up somebody or just stop in Trenton to pick them up on the way down. Glad they didn’t steal Matty, though, love him for this…
