11 Forwards, Five D

Looks like that’s what the Trenton Devils will be playing with tonight. Wow. Three healthy D scratches in Lowell for their last game, so it sure was an interesting choice to call up Andy Thomas.

I’ll have any lineup notes I can offer before gametime…

It’s Dave Caruso vs. John Murray in goal. Pretty sure Kris Mayotte may never start here again…

16….about the number of people here aside from the group in 102. Yes it’s early but…

  2. Shtikl Says:

Maybe Killer should sign this guy to a PTO:

  3. Trentondevilsfan Says:

Nah, we still have Pender, it’s not that long a suspension 🙂

  4. Shtikl Says:

Besides, he’d probably push them over the weekly cap limit — or couldn’t play anyway because of the veteran rule.

  5. tdevils Says:

Oh. My. God. Epic attendance fail here tonight.

  6. Shtikl Says:

Well, if it’s any consolation to youse, Andy Thomas is playing this game tonight.

So are there more players on the ice than fans in the seats?

  7. tdevils Says:

    It’s close…

    Lowell has 10 D, yes?

  8. Shtikl Says:

    6 on the ice.

D scratches are Magnan (suspended), Eckford (oh dear, injured?), Cohen (injured? ill? doghouse?), and Flynn (AF duties?)

Well, go get yourself a wobbly pop and prepare to be floored by great ECHL hockey.

  9. Shtikl Says:

No, I was wrong, it’s Cohen in and Murray out. And Robitaille dropped with DiDiomete, think the Whiffer got the better punches in.

  10. chiarams Says:

And to make things better, Reading signed Ryan-James Hand. At least it’ll be entertaining when he comes in and beats the christ out of anyone that looks at him wrong.

  11. tdevils Says:

What did the Hand say to the face…

  12. Shtikl Says:

Aha. MOB just announced Murray is an injured scratch tonight.

  13. Trentondevilsfan Says:

Hahahaha the mystery injury. And we have 4.5 d as Tomko doesn’t count as a full one. He’s so scared of the puck it’s….something not good

  14. chiarams Says:

Thomas on the board at the Rock with a hooking minor.

  15. titans04 Says:

Come on Mike that was a great first. If it wasn’t for the third open guy in the crease that finally put the puck in the net this gem would be 0-0.

Mike any chance you can ask Killer how he feels about the Devils driving a stake through the heart of another minor league market?

Perhaps make that probably the softest team to ever hit the ice in Trenton on display tonight with Kell being the exception.

Crowd update. The guy 4 sections overrr farted at the 9:16 mark of the 1st. Very disturbing.

  16. Trentondevilsfan Says:

Oh hey, I noticed someting nifty tonite. Not only is Ginand’s name in a different typeface than the others during introductions, it’s spelled Ginard. Seriously. Aaaaaand keep an eye on the first tall pane of glass between 113 and 114. It’s loose.

  17. Shtikl Says:

Looks like a decent crowd in Newark. Good guys up 1-0 at the end of 1, but they start short-handed next stanza. Ref has it in for the Dweebs.

Thomas made his first statistical contribution, a hooking at 16:34. Got between some jerk named Didiomete and McKenna. 😛

  18. chiarams Says:

Define “decent” crowd? I suppose I could go to crowdsurfing.net and watch it for free, but that’d take effort. And bandwidth that I’d rather use on porn than on the Devils at any level.

  19. tdevils Says:

Well, the story in the paper tomorrow should be just lovely…

  20. tdevils Says:

I have two friends at the Newark game. They said they got handed tickets for free.

  21. titans04 Says:

Anybody know how Cormier and his two year deal are looking on Lowell ice since being called up.

Ut oh 2-0. The sunshine club is presnt in 117 let’s see if she chimes in today.

  22. titans04 Says:

Ok forget the stink coming off the ice, we’re thinking Neil Smith’s hair color is L’oreal # 29.

Your thoughs TDF, different lighting from your view.

  23. chiarams Says:

    I’m guessing it’s the same as Leahy’s – Autumn douchebag. I mean…Autumn sunrise.

  24. Trentondevilsfan Says:

I think you’re right, but personally I think the stink is Tomko. Lot to go around but he’s my whipping boy tonite.

  25. titans04 Says:

A huge hockey just had the best idea yet. The last shot on the kiss cam should be the Lamoriello’s kissing our hairy asses.

  26. tdevils Says:

Careful on the comments here, kids…

  27. chiarams Says:

Sorry – admittedly, I had to rewrite my last comment like four times.

The first three attempts would’ve been deemed as offensive and/or hurtful.

Not as offensive as the product on the ice, but offensive nonetheless.

  28. Trentondevilsfan Says:

Here’s the third, hope Tomko shuts me up or it’ll just get worse…

  29. Trentondevilsfan Says:

3-0. Reading/Elmira games are gonna be great at this point

  30. chiarams Says:

Last Johnstown shutout on the road – January 9, 2009 – at Elmira.

Third time Trenton shut out at home this year.

Number of home wins against a team that isn’t Johnstown this year? 4.

    FOUR.

Number of home wins against a team that isn’t Johnstown or Elmira? 1.

    Against Wheeling. January 2nd, 2010.

  31. Shtikl Says:

And an announced crowd of what? 1455? Congratulations on finally approaching Lowell! But you’ll have to get below 876 in the attendance limbo game if you really want to beat us.

The Lowly Dweebles lost in OT to the PuppyHumpers, 2-3. A severely depleted gang of puppyhumpers, at that. Oy. Andy Thomas maybe got 4-5 shifts, but at least he didn’t man the nachos. I think MOB said he’d be staying until Mags comes back from his suspension, so don’t look for him to return before Saturday.

  32. Trentondevilsfan Says:

That was just…beyond the pale. Somehow the pass into an empty corner while on the power play stands out among the suckage.

  33. Mike M Says:

Lowell in Newark announced at 5,458 & to me looked pretty close to it. All general admission and I was able to sit on the glass just by getting there early enough

  34. titans04 Says:

You can’t expect to beat a goalie like Murray, not with the kind of year he’s having and the Chiefs have been rolling since Oct. Pretty much all you need to know is that Kell was the best defenseman on the ice. Coutu seemed to disappear at some point, Thank you to Trevor for continuing to show heart on every shift while a whole bunch of others couldn’t be bothered.

    ===============================================

For some seeing the logo on the sweater is enough to keep them happy regardless of what the on ice product is. For those of us that only care about the on ice product and couldn’t care less about the logo this team is terrible and way more often that not don’t give you a single reason to ever come back. It’s nothing personal against the players, I would bet they’re all fine gentlemen and at some point and place in time were real good hockey players at some level. At this level this collective bunch has earned being the 2nd worst team on the entire league. The “system” is one that would bore most people to sleep game in and game out, the defense is non-existant a trait that has followed this team since the Devils took over. The amount of undersized charmon soft forwards is comical, actually sad.

Call me crazy but I don’t put any of this on the coaches or the bare bones local front office. Winning at the minor league level has never ever been a priority for the Devils, their AHL affiliate has missed the playoffs the last 10 years, we’re gonna miss the playoffs for the 2nd time in 3 seasons. I would love somebody anybody to defend those numbers. How proud they must be of owning the AHL worst attendance # and the ECHL’s 2nd worst. Anybody see a pattern here? It will NEVER be about winning on Trenton as long as the town is painted red.

Not for nothing but remember way back a few months ago when we were making fun of the sign not working out front and somebody from Lou’s camp said well if you knew anything it was because the power was shutdown because they were upgrading the ice making equipment. How’s that sign working these days, are they still looking for the breaker 3 months later.

Everything about this team stinks, the on ice product, the attendance, the atmosphere is one of a morgue, the promotions a flat out joke, anything else left in closets they can unload? I almost can’t wait to see how many more STH’s walk away after this year, the Devils are making it too easy at his point.

Trenton hockey only use to be about winning at all costs (05-06) theexception, now it’s about grooming 2-3 players the Devils are midly interested in and filling the rest with warm bodies.

  35. Trentondevilsfan Says:

Their facebook page mentioned they were using 4 defensemen most of the night, have no idea what happened to Coutu. If he can’t go this weekend we’re down to Kell and Zancanaro to bring any snarl vs Reading and Elmira.

  36. Shtikl Says:

    Well if this

    http://www.telegram.com/article/20100204/NEWS/2040825/1009/SPORTS

is any indication, you’ll be losing some more players after Friday night.
