Some Quick Quotes…

Can’t share everything I got today just yet, I’d be stupid to waste all three/four features in the span of an hour…

But as I mentioned, I did speak to MacLean, Stoesz, Cohen and Castonguay.  Depending on how the game goes, I should have some post-game stuff as well.  But here’s some stuff pertinent to tonight…

MATT COHEN: “I see Matt Corrente is going to play tonight, and I don’t know what that means for me.  Maybe I’m out.  If you asked me yesterday, I thought for sure I was going to play.”

“You get a little bit excited, you’re playing in a nice building and stuff like that.  And it’s the Devils building, and we watched them last night when they were on the ice.  It’s a good feeling.  But at the same time, to be realistic, we’re still playing the same team.  I think that you want to say to yourself — I do — that it’s just another game.  I think there might be some extra butterflies tonight.”

ERIC CASTONGUAY: “This is great.  You see guys like Martin Brodeur play here.  It’s thrilling.  It’s going to be great to skate on NHL ice, this is going to my first game ever.”

JOHN MACLEAN: “They might be (awestruck over the playing environment), but they’ll have to get over it quickly.  (Laughs).  I think it’s a good thing for them.  We’re fortunate that the Devils are giving us the opportunity to use the big room, that’s fun.  They get to play a big, nice facility like this.  They’re getting treated like pros, which they are anyways, but they’re at the NHL level.  And these are things that these guys need to learn too, how to be pros.  It’s just a part of the process and learning curve and maturation as players.”

“(On if the Rangers-Devils rivalry translates to the AHL level) A little bit, but there’s different guys and the proximity and the closeness isn’t really there, so we don’t have the press that it gets up here.  Guys aren’t aware of the rivalry as much.  But from an organizational aspect, we know it and are aware of it, and we want to beat them any chance we can.”

How cool is it that they need to sit on two healthy D in Lowell with Murray still not having dressed in a game since they called him up. Actually three for tonight game with Cohen joining in the nachos testing. Assuming Corrente goes back up after the game tonight they’ll fall back to 2 healthy spares. Thumbs up Lou jr thumbs up.

🙂 How far and up what?

Hey they won at the Rock good for them. Standard loss tonight for us against Cincy after blowing two leads in record time in the 2nd period. Solid 3 shot first period. Generally more of the same. Probably time to head over to youtube to find some more videos for the playoff thread. Reaching .500 remains a very long shot at this point. 2 in a row against a Toledo team that had won a whole bunch of games in a row before losiing their last three in a row.

Thankfully Kell is only a “little banged up and day to day” now for what 2 weeks?

Anybody know if Nagy played tonight? Queue the milk cartons at this point.

  4. Shtikl Says:

Seriously, having Davison back was a surprise, maybe Murray’s been sent to join the T-Devils in Toledo already. Not that it will change tonight’s score. Yuck.

  5. Birdwatcher Says:

Apparently you hockey geniuses know little or nothing about hockey or defensive hockey. Beat writer included. All of you are slaggin a kid who I watch work his ass off at all the home games. If you would bother to check Nagy’s history you will see that he was not drafted by the New Jersey Devils for his scoring prowess but his 2 way play, mostly penalty kills. There is so much more to hockey than scoring goals. It’s the guys that play down low and dig that puck out to generate chances that do all the hard work. You are all suposed to be New Jersey Devils fans and you don’t even know this is their style of hockey??? The kid is a prototypical Devils forward. Whatever, just to show how very little you know, Kory Nagy left the team after tonights game, He was called up to the Lowell Devils. If he comes back he should tell you what to do with your milk cartons.

“You are all suposed to be New Jersey Devils fans… ”

    No. We’re not.

Most of us are fans of Trenton hockey. The way the Devils have, ahem, “furthered” the Trenton market, I’d be hard pressed to root for the big club if they were playing Al Qaeda.

  9. Shtikl Says:

What? Kory’s coming back to Lowell? Is this a player swap or is someone else injured?

  10. titans04 Says:

could not care less about the NJ Devils, frankly only care about Trenton as stated above.

Thanks for the education on there’s more to hockey Bird, hopefully it made you feel better. And I’ve stated more than a few times his offensive numbers in the past have been next to nill but in a three line league if one of your “best” players needs a small miracle to find the back of the net to some of us it’s a problem. This team is boring enough and offensively challenged on most nights to begin with. No chance he’s going to Lowell for a wake up call right? The only NHL contracted player we had (outside of Stoesz and Cormier) was a 3rd line center on a pretty poor team, wonderful.

Enjoying everything the wonderful org has done for Trenton? Pass the koolaid.

and if the Bermans hadnt sold the team to the Devils, it would be gone and you would be watching Reading hockey. The worst season the team ever had was the Bermans last year with Mckay. Birdwatcher you will find that there are posters here who only post because they support Trenton hockey. They hate everything Devils and will find any excuse to rag on the Devils org. for any and all reasons. As Trenton hockey fans they have to right to voice their opinions right or wrong but dont expect all Devil love here. But at least here is a forum with team info and coverage more than we get from the local media.

  12. titans04 Says:

Ok step up and explain the wonderful success the Devils minor league teams have had. Their AHL affiliate has not made the playoffs in 10 years, have sh*t attendance. We’re heading for missing the playoff 2 out of 3 years and the chances that we end up dead last in the league in attendance are increasing with Johnstown putting up 3900 on a Wednesday night last night.

The only thing I dislike more than the Devils are the Flyers but would much rather have had the Phantoms here. The Flyers dropped the ball without a doubt, the fact that they asked the Devils if they were interested in moving out so that the Phantoms could slide in there indicates that was their intention all along. They gambled the Bermans would fold the team and they would just slide inthere – they lost, we lost. So in comes Lou on his white horse blows smoke up everybody’s as* about painting the town red just how much of an effort has he made in doing that other than painting the lockerroom walls and installing new carpet. Talking about just how convenient the location is “only a short train ride from Newark” how the NHLplayers would make appearances at SBA because it was so convenient. Hows that worked out? I do give him credit for tying the hands of the T-Devils front office behind their back and eliminating every possible expense dollar they can.

They have done a terriifc job at the NHL level without a doubt, they management of their minor league franchises is pathetic equal to their minor league on ice success over the past decade.

    For the fan club:

  14. tdevils Says:

Awww, it’s cute when people tell me I don’t know anything. I always enjoy that.

I already explained why I hold Nagy to a higher standard. Stats aside, he hasn’t been one of the better players on the team. Period.

  15. Trentondevilsfan Says:

    I’ve been a Devils fan since 1985.

They’ve done precious little right since they got here. They created Scorch and hired a great person to man the suit. And they gave Killer room to bring in some key guys last year to give us a magical second half of the season. The free NJ tickets are great. They did one NJ Devils alumni game here.

That’s a pretty short list; almost as short as the lines to the toilets at intermission.

  16. Shtikl Says:

Can’t be any shorter than the beer line in Lowell.
