The Trenton Devils have acquired forward Jack Combs in a trade with the Alaska Aces. It is most likely that Combs was dealt for cash, as is the case with most transactions in this league.
Combs is a 21-year-old St. Louis native who attended Blues prospect camp in 2009 and apparently had dreams of one day wearing a Blues sweater in the NHL. Can’t imagine he’s too thrilled about leaving the Blues organization then, but perhaps he’ll get a better opportunity here.
A right wing, Combs could be a huge acquisition for the Devils. Although he’s scored just one goal and added three assists in his first 11 professional games with the Aces, he was an absolute lamp lighter in the OHL. He had a 42 goal season in 2007-08 and a 32 goal season in 2008-09, adding eight playoff goals in nine games that year as well.
Additionally, the team has activated defenseman Luke Lucyk off of IR and placed defenseman Gord Burnett and winger Kevin Cormier on it. Both the Burnett and Cormier moves were made as of 12/2, and Burnett and Cormier were placed on the seven and three day IR, respectively. Burnett would be eligible to play in the team’s southern swing in Gwinnett and South Carolina, while Cormier will miss at least the first of the three-game set against Reading this weekend.
