Game 51: Wheeling @ Trenton

Pre-Game Notes (LIVE from SBA): 4:50 PM — So the news of the day, outside of Kristen Bartholomew’s approval of the pulled pork, of course, is that Eric Castonguay is back in the lineup tonight and Tim Judy is out.

Also, check out colleague Josh Brett’s article on Scott Bertoli.

My mind is absolutely, positively elsewhere tonight…so I’ll probably tone down the live blog quite a bit for the evening.

7:00 PM — Gerald Coleman and Curtis Darling are your starters in goal for the evening.  Eric Castonguay is, in fact, taking warmups.

First Period: Your starters…

Coleman
Cohen-Leaderer
Eves-Henkel-Kell

18:31 left — Eric Castonguay’s fine, evidently.  Weird play to the left of the faceoff circle…looked like he just lifted Tobias Holm’s stick and got the loose puck and snuck it past Darling.  1-0, Devils.

15:17 left — Wheeling answers right back on a goal by Aaron Clarke that got past Coleman, who tried to stack the pads to make the stop…1-1

4:45 left — Rob Chakler would be very upset if he knew he was going to miss a game where they finally called delay of game on the goalie.  Curtis Darling got nailed for it, and Trenton has a 5-on-3 for 1:11.

4:02 left — Matt Cohen with a pretty easy rebound goal into a wide open net.  2-1, Devils.  PP for another1:17.

2-1 DEVILS, AFTER 20 MINUTES.  SHOTS ARE 13-6, TRENTON.

Second Period: 4:41 left — Curtis Darling just absolutely, positively robbed Jim Henkel.  Dan Eves came in on a somewhat clean breakaway and Darling made the save, but kicked the rebound out to the trailing Henkel…but Darling dove across and stopped Henkel’s rebound with his glove.  Great stop.  Still 2-1.

2-1 DEVILS THROUGH TWO.  SHOTS ARE 25-16, DEVILS.

Third Period: 18:00 left — Justin Coutu just went hard into the boards courtesy of a check from Andrew Lord, and skated off very gingerly.  For as shorthanded as this team is right now, that’s something to keep an eye on.

3:40 left — Matt Cohen takes a boarding penalty and gives the Nailers a huge, huge power play…

Final Score: 2-1, Trenton

Three Stars:

* Eric Castonguay

** Matt Cohen

*** Curtis Darling

My vote: I…ummm, didn’t get one.  But if I did, it would be Castonguay-Cohen-Coleman

Hard to blog after single-handedly destroying the pizza hut buffet earlier. Probably don’t want to stray to far from the bathroom.

Good news about Eric – certainly a surprise. Wonder why Judy isn’t playing, haven’t seen anything saying he was released – yet.

I see Wheeling is carrying Jason Payne on the roster. He has a nice YouTube portfolio and has survived the LNAH. For those of us stuck at work hope you have the video camera rolling when he’s on the ice. He’s played for 21 teams more or less in his career.

last week he didn’t get a single shift.

Looks like he was a scratch tonight. Glad to see Coleman have a good game.

Wait, so there were competent officials at an ECHL game? I am shocked.

Lowell lost a dman tonight as well now down to 5, probably means we lose another one and are down to 4, 5 if Judy is really still on the roster. Equally important Kell never came out for the third. If Kell is out we’re back to only 9 healthy forwards with still 3 games to play in the next 4 days.

Harrison and Torti were both in the room after the game, which I don’t think would be the case if they were done for the year…Harrison could be close.
