The Cole Train Keeps Chuggin

The ex-NHL’er was named the ECHL’s Goalie of the Week…

(PR) Gerald Coleman of the Trenton Devils is the Reebok ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Jan. 4.

Returning after missing a month because of injury, Coleman started four games in five days and went 4-0-0 with a goals-against average of 2.21 and a save percentage of .915. He helped the Devils improved to 8-2-0 in the last 10 games and 11-3-2 in their last 16 to even their record at 14-14-3.

After stopping 17 of 18 shots in a 4-1 win against Elmira on Tuesday, Coleman had 20 saves in a 5-4 win at division leader Johnstown on Wednesday. He turned aside 19 shots in a 3-2 win against Dayton on Friday and had a team season-high 41 saves in an 8-2 win against the Bombers on Saturday.

The 23 year old is 5-0-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 1.65 and a save percentage of .937 in five games for Trenton. The Devils acquired him in exchange for future considerations on Nov. 23 from Phoenix where he was 2-1-1 with a goals-against average of 1.48 and a save percentage of .950 in four games. Selected in the seventh round (224th overall) by Tampa Bay in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Coleman has also played in the American Hockey League appearing in three games for Worcester.

He has played in the ECHL the last three seasons and is 9-6-1 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.06 and a save percentage of .925 in 19 games with Trenton, Phoenix, Johnstown and Augusta.
