Gwinnett Coach: Effinger’s “Not Going To Be A 1”

For those of you looking for a ringing endorsement of new Trenton Devils goaltender Charlie Effinger, here’s hoping you didn’t pick up a copy of The Gwinnett Daily Post.

In this article, Gladiators head coach Jeff Pyle talked about losing Effinger after acquiring Josh Johnson from the South Carolina Stingrays.

“I love Charlie, he’s a good 2, but he’s not going to be a 1,” Pyle told the paper.

Effinger struggled in his two outings with the Gladiators this season, allowing 11 goals on 70 shots over the course of two road contests.

His numbers at Miami (OH) in college were significantly better, as he went 34-12-4 with a 2.35 GAA and 91.2 save percentage over his four seasons there.

    Well if he’s a 2 we now have a 2 and a 6. I guess that’s an improvement.

Well… on this team he definitely looks like a #1

He was outstanding tonight, yes it’s one game but it’s one more outstanding game than we’ve gotten from Red Light. Very good effort tonight from the cage on out as Havi would say. Granted reading has been dreadful up until now as well.

Was at the Devs/Caps game, but DELIGHTFULLY happy to see the boys won and glad the kid came through after his previous coach dumped on him for no reason at all.

At the last meet and greet I met Charlie and told him watch his previous coach said. It was funny because Coleman became all ears asw ell. Charlie never heard the #1 comment and was shocked. Chalrie is a great guy and he also played against Dave Caruso in college and the teammate of the GREAT up and coming Andy Greene.

Miami, OH is putting out some high quality talent.
