Trenton Acquires Goalie, Adds Two Forwards

Finally!  The Trenton Devils have gotten around to acquiring another goaltender who can actually play, trading for Gwinnett’s Charlie Effinger.

Effinger, who became expendable when South Carolina traded Josh Johnson to the Gladiators, was not exactly setting the world on fire with his numbers, however.

The 22-year-old was 0-2-0 with a 5.50 GAA and 84.3 save percentage in two appearances.

In addition, the team has received Tyler Burton back from Lowell, and added forward Benoit Mondou from Lowell.

Burton’s return means that, at least for now, Eric Castonguay and Trevor Kell will be sticking in the AHL.  Burton did not get on the scoresheet in one game with Lowell this season.

As for Mondou, you might remember him from his 2006-07 campaign in Trenton, where he scored 25 goals during his first professional season.  He was held without a point in eight games in Lowell this season.

In addition, the Trenton Devils have released Chris Tutalo.  He scored two goals in six games this season.

Bonne chance, Mondou! Marquez une tempête de buts! Sauvez Trenton!

Is the release of Tutalo suppossed to send the ole “message” to the squad? He does have two goals and for us, that’s huge. Glad to see Mondou even if it is demotion. Ya’ know, the new back up has a bad last name if he does not play well. I won’t say it, but others I am sure will, if not think it silently. Good times!

This appeared in my inbox as a google search on Frank Doyle (former Lowell netminder). Maybe it is just fluff:

“Slumps are bad, bad news,” betting analyst Frank Doyle said in an email. “They’re like a car spinning on ice, you know? What you instinctively do to correct the spin may actually make it worse.

“You start second-guessing,” Doyle added. “What was once good evidence to make a decision is suddenly stuff you’re no longer sure of. You don’t know up from down.”

Doyle is playing with the Cologne Sharks in Germany

  5. Shtikl Says:

Yes, he is, thanks. I just have a google news search “on retainer” for each of the players who passed through Lowell in the past 6 years. Just thought the perspective on slumps might be germane.

The Haie lost their first 12 games this season, and their coach took a hike. I haven’t looked to see what other personnel changes they made. Since then, they’re slowly clawing their way up out of the basement in their league, but over 20 games they’ve only won 7. Right now Doylee’s GAA is 3.02 and his save % is 89.2, actually that’s a definite improvement. But they did have a pretty solid team to start the season, not just a skeleton of experienced players and duct tape and string holding things together.

The T-Devils, on the other hand… well, it’s not pretty, is it? Hopefully by the end of the season they will have gone through this funk and put together some winning streaks. And given the fans a reason to cheer.
