Mike Ashmore is a 25-year-old sportswriter who covers the Somerset Patriots and Trenton Thunder for the Hunterdon County Democrat, a weekly paper based in Central New Jersey.  Ashmore is in his sixth season of covering professional sports, and his third season as a Thunder beat writer.

This will be his first year of covering the Trenton Devils.

He started this blog in September of 2008 as a way to provide daily coverage of the team and to continue to cover sports in the Trenton area now that the Thunder season is over.  

Ashmore has covered the AHL in the past, covering a handful of games for the Philadelphia Phantoms, Hartford Wolfpack and Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.  The majority of his professional experience is in covering baseball, and he’s probably best known for his popular “Thunder Thoughts” blog.

Also a big fan of hockey, he’s attended nearly 150 NHL games in 14 different arenas, including a stretch last year where he attended four games in four different cities (Newark, New York, Columbus, Chicago) in four consecutive days.

Ashmore has covered over 500 professional games and interviewed everyone from World Series and Super Bowl MVP’s to NASCAR champions and NBA MVP’s.  He’s covered five championship teams, two no-hitters and has interviewed over 375 Major League Baseball players.
