(PR) The ECHL announced that Trenton forward Kevin Cormier has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions in ECHL Game #623 against Wheeling on Feb. 24.
Cormier was assessed a Match Penalty under Rule 21.1 Deliberate Attempt To Injure at 4:50 of the second period.
He is automatically suspended for one game and fined as a result of the Match Penalty and is suspended one game under Rule 29 Supplemental Discipline.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, player fines collected by the ECHL are given to the PHPA for its ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund.
Cormier will miss Trenton’s games at Wheeling (Feb. 28 and Mar. 1).

Wheeling’s Mitch Ganzak was fined an undisclosed amount, but not suspended. That sure sends an interesting message…spearing someone in the groin is OK, but the retaliation for it is where they have an issue.
Also, Tim Judy was again released from his contract. With the team shorthanded, I’d expect him to return.

Don’t count on Judy – wheeling claimed him, very smart on their part screwing us. Don’t think he’ll even consider playing there but if I’m them I just suspend him and pat myself on the back.
Really really dumb move exposing him like that, it was only a matter of time. I just had this conversation with Chairams last week.
Seriously what was the point in releasing him, he was on the roster and sat twice in the last week but at least he was protect from this .
2/25 Claimed

And that’s why you sign guys to real contracts and don’t do things on the cheap…

I get the fact that he doesn’t want to play full time, but they kept him on the roster last week and he sat out 2 games but they didn’t expose him to this bs. I guess they’re banking on Dyment and Cohen being back this weekend. Not sure either one is a slam dunk.

So can they just keep him tied up on suspension the rest of the season?

They have his rights and assuming he doesn’t show up they can suspend him or try and trade his rights. Not sure anybody would give anything up to get him knowing he won’t play full time if at all

And the Devils know all about doing things on the cheap.

The Cormier suspension made the press notes at the Devils game last night … it’s a shame that’s the first time I’ve seen the TDevs mentioned in them. And it said nothing about the other guy … an interesting message indeed.
Sounds like the TDevs really could not stand to lose another player…

Not very surprising that it would take something like that to get the Trenton Devils a mention in the notes of their own parent organization…seems they do very, very little to help promote things down here.
And with the playoff race as tight as it is and with as shaky as things have been over the past few games…this is a very, very key stretch. Losing anyone else would really hurt.

Yeah T Devils well that is changing to an extent, but you’re right the Devs could do more but this old Devils philosophy will change next year.
Cormier stuck up for a teammate, clear..pure and simple.

Cormier may have over-reacted to being speared, but the ECHL didn’t notice or say anything about the slash Ganzak laid on the back of Cormier’s knee before the faceoff. Funny – they suspended Harrison for a similar slash back in January (and that was apparently a dive).
Are the governing body officials not reviewing the play tapes before they smack Trenton with suspensions? At the very least, Ganzak should have equal suspensions if not more (for instigation and the slash).
I’d like to see Harrison AND Cormier get ahold of Mitch….I just hope it’s on home ice.
